Job Search Reality: What AI Can't Do for You

TL;DR

The AI Job Search Buzz: Helpful or Hype?

Generative AI tools like ChatGPT have revolutionized productivity and creativity across industries, cultures, and generations. In 2025, using AI for research, ideation, or even crafting resumes is a no-brainer. However, relying solely on AI-generated content for your job search may not deliver the success you're hoping for.

Why? Because the quality of AI output is only as good as the input—mastering prompt engineering is key. Crafting effective prompts goes beyond asking ChatGPT to "rewrite your CV for this job" or "optimize your LinkedIn profile to match this role". And many people have no idea how to understand or elevate the GenAI game.

Navigating the Noise

Plenty of experts share "killer prompts" to help job seekers optimize resumes and LinkedIn profiles. While these freebies are helpful and you can test what works for you without reinventing the hot water, many generic tips come from individuals unfamiliar with hiring practices. And misguided advice can hurt your chances rather than help.

Why AI Alone Falls Short

In many companies, Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) already use AI to scan resumes for specific keywords. The bots compile a list with the top candidates who match the profile of hire. But here’s the catch:

  • A human always makes the final selection.

  • AI suggestions often require manual review to ensure accuracy and unbiased process.

  • Hiring managers seek not just keywords but personality, track records, and standout qualities.

AI can’t fully assess your unique value or story, which recruiters, employers and your future colleagues want to see.

The Human Advantage

Career experts, especially those with diverse recruitment experience, offer insights that AI tools cannot replicate. They help you:

  • Analyze your skillset and craft a compelling and adequate resume.

  • Understand hiring practices and industry-specific nuances.

  • Identify your Unique Selling Point (USP) to understand your own potential and abilities.

Working with a coach provides both the knowledge and strategy needed to stand out now and in the future. And all that served with empathy, candid feedback, and some AI :)

Efficiency vs. Mastery

While AI makes processes efficient, learning how to navigate your career journey and craft your brand is invaluable. In the long run, investing time in honing these skills will pay off far beyond just landing one job.
